What is a vasectomy?

A vasectomy is a minor surgical procedure and a form of permanent contraception that is suitable for Gold Coast men who have decided not to have any or don’t wish to have any more children. The vasectomy procedure involves cutting the tubes that carry sperm from the testicles to the penis, allowing the body to naturally reabsorb the sperm instead of releasing it during ejaculation.

Our Vasectomy Services
at MSI Gold Coast

At MSI Vasectomy Gold Coast, we are proud to offer the ‘open-ended no-scalpel’ vasectomy technique, which is known for its safety and efficacy. Our experienced team performs these procedures using local anaesthetic to ensure your comfort and a smooth recovery.

Open-Ended Vasectomy

An open-ended vasectomy only closes the upper part of the vas deferens leaving the end connected to the testicle completely open. As a result, the sperm are still released within the scrotum, but the volume is very small. This technique reduces the risk of complications, such as congestive epididymitis, making it a preferred option for our Gold Coast patients.

No-Scalpel Vasectomy

Only a single small puncture in the skin is required for a no-scalpel vasectomy, which means there is no need for any stitches. A specially designed set of forceps is also used to decrease the chance of infection.

Anaesthetic

We only offer local anaesthetic for the procedure at our associated Medical Centres. However, our *painless anaesthetic delivery technique is the benchmark in vasectomy procedures and was pioneered by our lead vasectomist, Dr Justin Low. The technique has been found to reduce sensations of pain for most patients, with 79% reporting experiencing less pain than expected or no pain at all.

FAQ

FAQs About Getting a Vasectomy on the Gold Coast

Considering a vasectomy on the Gold Coast? Our team of vasectomy specialists has compiled the most commonly asked questions to help inform Gold Coast residents about this permanent contraception option. If you have any more questions about our Gold Coast vasectomy services please don’t hesitate to contact us today.

No, having a vasectomy will not impact your sex life or affect sex enjoyment. A vasectomy doesn’t affect the production of testosterone so your sex drive won’t be affected and neither will your ability to get an erection or ejaculate semen.

As vasectomy is a minor procedure, complications after are rare. However, all surgical procedures involve a degree of risk and minor infections and Post Vasectomy Pain Syndrome can occasionally occur. Your Gold Coast vasectomy doctor will carefully explain all potential risks and complications before the procedure.

Though a vasectomy should be considered a permanent form of contraception, it is possible to undergo a reversal procedure on the Gold Coast. However, it’s important to note that a vasectomy reversal is expensive, often not covered by insurance, and doesn’t have a 100% success rate.

During the procedure itself, you will experience little to no pain as a result of the local anaesthetic used. However, once the anaesthesia wears off, you can expect some minor discomfort in your scrotum and you may notice some slight swelling and bruising but this is completely normal and will subside within a few days.

No, a vasectomy doesn’t involve a man’s sex organs. Neither the penis or testicles are affected and you can expect to have normal testes, hormones, erections and ejaculation after the procedure.

You can resume sexual activity approximately 7 days after having a vasectomy. However, for the first 3 months after having the procedure you use another method of contraception, as active sperm can remain in the vas deferens tube ahead of the cut for that amount of time. You should keep using alternative contraception until a semen test shows a zero sperm count.

Yes, at MSI Vasectomy Gold Coast, we can refer you to a bulk billing pathology clinic for post-vasectomy sperm tests, meaning no out-of-pocket costs for this important follow-up. Unlike other providers who may charge $70-$80, we ensure your vasectomy care remains affordable and straightforward.
